The Tennessee Business Roundtable and conference sponsors are pleased to present the second annual CEO Summit on Math and Science Education. The forum will be held Wednesday, Date Pending at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. This summit will provide an opportunity to business leaders across the state to step forward and become a true partner with our public education system. Governor Phil Bredesen, along with other state and national business leaders, will address the Math and Science crisis in our public schools and challenge the business community to take action and make a difference by:
- Increasing student interest in Math and Science to increase the pipeline.
- Demonstrating the wonder of discovery to students while helping them master rigorous content.
- Acknowledging the professionalism of teachers.
Fewer and fewer students are showing an interest in Math and Science and many of Tennessee's schools do not have the sufficient number of highly qualified teachers for these subjects. Less than 25% of Tennessee students in the 4th or 8th grades score proficient on the National assessments. The overall student achievement in math lags behind much of the country and only 57% of our high school students graduate with a regular diploma.
As an attendee, you will be given the opportunity to provide your input and recommendations on today's education issues. By using the latest hand held response technology, this data will be compiled into a report that will be given widespread distribution to educators and policy makers. Following the morning session, you will have the opportunity to tour the Vanderbilt University and see first hand what the workforce of tomorrow will face.
Please make a special effort to attend this important event. As a business leader who understands that education means good economic development, please sign up today and begin to make a difference in the future of education for our children.
